At the age of fourty three he was elected to the House of Commons, after being defeated five times in a row. By 1957, at the age of sixty, he was elected as prime minister in a landslide victory, awarded the largest majority in Canadian parliamentary history. But that was only the beginning: during his term he had hard choices to make about the cancelling of the Avro arrow, the Cuban Missile crisis, and the beginning of medicare.
